Nipton Rock Gardens

Named the Garden of Mystery, Big John constructed this rock garden in 1930-1931, during his residency in the town. This decorative display of rocks taken from nearby mines; silver ore, quartz, feldspar and geodes, is supplemented by cactus and succulents. The Nipton Hotel was frequented by Hollywood celebrities in the 1930s. Around this time, Clara Bow and Rex Bell commissioned Big John to make his artistic contribution to their home.
